Grammy,
You can’t make your kids stop drinking. As a former addict/alcoholic, I know first hand that I wasn’t wiling to change until I hit rock bottom. Not everyone has to hit that point in order to change. At that point I reached out to the Lord to help me and he said “You need to choose.” Of course, He knew that I hadn’t chosen Him at that moment. It would be a year before I gave up feeding of my flesh for my own purposes to turn my life around.
I am now 4 years sober, in love with the Lord and greatly enjoy serving Him. Your circle of prayer warriors need to pray for your kids as well as you should too. The more we try to change them, the more they won’t want to change. It has to be their decision to want to. Remember: “Lord… bless them and change me.” A simple enough prayer but very profound in its meaning.
If the Lord wants you to help them change, He will open the door and the means to help. Talk to Him and ask Him. More often than not, the Lord has people already lined up to help your children.
Being a mother myself, it’s hard to sit on my hands and not intervene. Yet, how can we turn down the Lord when He’s telling us leave them alone because they have to choose their path? It’s hard. Just as it’s hard not to minister to so many that are lost (just like your kids) and not be able to because the Lord has others to help them out on their journey and is telling us to step back.
We have to have a PROFOUND trust in Him to believe that everything is taken care of. But remember: man was born with self-will. Man alone chooses which side of the fence to walk on. Pray to the Lord that He will take the scales from their eyes and help them see what they are doing with their life.
Satan is working awful hard to keep your children away from the Lord. And when Satan does that, he knows something that we don’t: that when your kids walk with the Lord, they are a mighty power team. Satan hates that. So now you know where the battle is. Time to let the Lord win the battle for you. Don’t ever give up praying. I’ve spent 20 years on prayers for my husband to want to be close to the Lord. This past year, he started to want to know Him personally. Amen!!!
Stay grounded in the Lord sister. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God Bless. Annette
