Each year we choose a family to do the 12 Days of Christmas. We celebrate by leaving homemade treats and gifts on their doorstep each night. The kids and grand-kids love ringing the doorbell and running to hide before the door opens. It really adds to the spirit of giving.
We all get in the car and drive to the Christmas tree lot and cut our own tree for Christmas. Then we decorate it together and everyone places their favorite ornaments.
My favorite Christmas memories are around getting and putting up the tree. We always put it up the weekend before Christmas. The first day my dad would put it in the stand and put on the lights. the second day we would put on all the ornaments and the star and the last two days were spent putting on the tinsel…one strand at a time. It seemed like so much work but the tree was always so beautiful.
I like to start the holiday season off by filling the house with decorations and fresh baked goods. It just doesn’t feel like Christmas without the smells and lights.
My favorite family tradition is on Christmas Eve when we gather together as a family and drive around the neighborhood to look at all the lights and decorations. It is such a fun night because afterwards we all go out for ice cream!
We all get in the car and drive around in our pj’s looking at the Christmas lights…the kids are always looking for Santa…there is always a red light to look suspiciously like Rudolph to get them home and snuggled up in bed!!
My family and I always build a fire even if it’s warm. The fire just brings the best atmosphere to Christmas morning.
I would make a batch of cinnamon rolls before everyone got up. They’d be done just in time to open presents and stockings. We also didn’t put the Christmas tree up until December 14th since my son’s birthday is the 13th.
