I recently got a desperate email from someone at one of the companies I included in my buying tech-support plans column. She was eager to see the piece in print but was unable to find it on the newsstand. I was traveling that day and all my copies of Family Circle were back in my office. So I wasn’t much help. I got on a plane and she figured it out on her own. But by the time my plane landed, I realized there was an easy solution: Zinio. This digital app and Web site lets you read magazines (for a subscription fee) on your tablet or computer.
Once you subscribe, the current issue shows up automatically and it looks great—complete with all the articles, photographs and art.
I downloaded Zinio to the my Android tablet, subscribed to Family Circle, and found my column in a few minutes—without leaving my chair in the boarding area for my next flight. I also subscribed to a couple other magazines while I was at it. And I sent my husband a subscription to Rolling Stone.
When my sister called me wanting to know what issue to pick up to read the column where I mention her, I was able to tell her what page to turn to.

I love magazines. But I always lose the issue I want. I can never decide which issues to keep and which to recycle. And I rarely pack them when I’m traveling. So I’m enjoying this tidy way of reading them. I can keep them forever—with no clutter. In fact, I can have dozens of magazines in my purse at all times!
