Trade Clutter for Cash

Here is a tip that assumes two things about your life:

  1. You have clutter — old cell phones, dead cameras, ancient GPSs, books —  you’d like to get rid of.
  2. Amazon has goods you would like to buy.

A while back, Amazon launched a buy-back service that is super easy to use. You log on, tell it what you have and print out a postage-paid shipping label. Then you package up the goods, slap on the label, and hand it to your shipper.

A little time will pass. And you will get an email from Amazon telling you a gift card has been deposited in your account. You are free to move on to acquiring the things you want at Amazon. Though, unless you have a lot of very valuable stuff, you won’t be acquiring very expensive things. Still, trading clutter for money seems fair to me. I got a $3 gift card this morning for trying the service out on an old phone that was kicking around my office. I’m now eyeing all clutter with dollar signs in my eyes.

The only hard part about this entire money-for-clutter transaction is locating the trade-in program at Amazon. So here is a direct link: Amazon.com/tradein.

I hope that helps with your weekend cleaning project — and your reading list.
