Did you see my column in the February issue (with that delicious-looking gratin soup on the cover)?

I know so many people who are taking work out of the workplace and into their own hands — something I did when my youngest teen was just a baby — that I thought it was time to share some of my freelancer’s secret weapons: Tools that help you keep on top of the money, manage your time, and work with clients. It’s a great list of the products I use every day. Check it out!

Here is one more: Nitro PDF

Have you ever printed out a document just so you could sign it and send it back? Do you print things so  you can mark them up? This program lets you do all that without printing. And that means less clutter, less wasted time, and less hunting for and mailing paper. It seemed like a small thing when I installed it — a PDF reader — but the more I use it, the more I need it.  It lets me stamp bills as “PAID,” drop my signature onto something with a couple of clicks, circle something in a document and write a note, and store everything on my hard drive where I can find it again to email to clients and colleagues. I’d love to make it a requirement for all of my kids’ teachers so I could get rid of student paper clutter permanently.

You can try it for free.
