Michelle Obama!
In our 2012 Presidential Cookie Bake-Off, we said it was your patriotic duty to bake, taste and vote. Did you ever—more than 9,000 readers weighed in. Victory was sweet for our current First Lady, Michelle Obama, and her White and Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies, but just 287 votes separated the two women, our smallest margin ever. (In other words, Ann Romney’s M&M’s Cookies were no flash in the pan.) For the complete backstory, go here.
The Final Votes
Michelle Obama’s Cookies: 51.5%; 4,844 votes
Ann Romney’s Cookies: 48.5%; 4,557 votes
Will history repeat itself? Our bake-off has been a bellwether in four out of five elections, with the winner becoming First Lady. Don’t forget to vote November 6!
Cake Pops and Cookie Pops: Brand New Recipes!

The “winner” of the contest has problems with her recipe.
It’s basically the Nestle Tollhouse recipe … EXCEPT … It’s got an extra cup of FAT (with the 1 stick of Crisco), an extra cup of chocolate chips and an extra cup of walnuts …
The amount of fat is what it should be IF you also double the white sugar, brown sugar, salt, baking soda, eggs, vanilla AND flour …
The fat to flour recipe is incorrect and will cause flat and greasy cookies …
I’m NOT buying that these cookies “won” the contest … especially after the debacle with the voter fraud in the 2008 cookie contest …
This recipe obviously was not tested by a professional chef before posting. Something is wrong with amount of ingredients and the temp they are supposed to be baked at. I baked 1 pan after making the dough and they spread like crazy so I put in the the fridge overnight to harden it up but I ended up with the same result. I baked cookies at 325 or 350. 375 is way too hot! Also, the butter to flour ratio is way off which I think is causing the spreading to occur. Please post better recipes in the future.
My sister like the white lady cookies-but she voting Obama to.
I ate both them cookies-I like Micheles the best-and i also am voting Obama.
I made both batches of cookies. I gave them out to my neighbors and did not tell them about the recipes and how they belonged to the Preidential candidates wives. Both neighbors loved the M & M cookies the best. I also favored the M & M cookies as well. I have to agree with the other comments about how Mrs. Obama’s cookie recipe was very greasy.
A co-worker made both recipes, not telling us whose recipe was whose. I voted for the chocolate chip. It is hard for me to resist dark chocolate. Glad my selection reflects the way I plan to vote. I will be anxious to see the end results in our office at the end of the day

here is the picture of my batch of cookies…
they taste fine, just greasy
Did anyone else end up with greasy blobs from the winning recipe? I followed the recipe exactly, but they don’t look like the photo above. I posted a photo on twitter. Oh, and it made more than 80 cookies… Maybe it should have been butter OR crisco
America’s next first lady, Ann Romney’s M&M cookies are the best cookie ever!!
Looking forward to making Ann Romney’s recipe and REALLY looking forward to having Mrs. Romney as our next First Lady!
