Pork and Veggie Skewers featured in the upcoming July issue!

Test Kitchen Sneak Peek gives you a behind the scenes look at what our food editors are cooking in the Family Circle test kitchen, plus expert tips from our food editors.

For the July issue of Family Circle, our food editors went grilling crazy! Grilled chicken, pork, beef, veggies—they tried it all. I was lucky enough to see our executive food editor Julie Miltenberger cook and test pork and veggie skewers. The recipe is pretty simple but packs a lot of flavor. Here are some pictures of Julie in action, plus she shared some great grilling tips!

After she marinated the meat, she prepped the skewers.

Marinating Tip: Typically beef can handle spicier and stronger flavors for marinades, says executive food editor Julie Miltenberger.

If you’re using bamboo skewers, be sure to soak them in warm water for 20 minutes before cooking. If you don’t, the wood will burn.

When cooking skewers, keep your meat and veggies on separate skewers. The meat and veggies will cook at different times. Also, don’t crowd meat on the skewer for better results.

If you want to try grilling some other veggies, Julie suggests asparagus and eggplant.
