Part of the household TO DO LIST – even in winter – is to do things outside around the yard.  You might find yourself picking up sticks and branches that have fallen during snow or ice storms, raking up gravel that has been plowed up on the driveway or maybe you are taking notice of certain trees or shrubs being affected by the snow and ice.

You may find that you didn’t take the time in the fall to protect certain outdoor plantings – and now you are noticing breakage or things looking a little fragile…It’s not too late to deal with them and save them from further damage…

To protect plants and shrubs – I have seen the old-standby of traditional burlap wrapping up plantings and protecting them from wintry conditions. However, many times – the burlap unravels and gets swept away.  Other times, I have seen some vibrant looking plastic wrapping that looks like garage bags covering plantings.   Then, I came across these new coverings that blend in with the environment a little better and they can stay in place…

They are collapsable and easy to work with.  You can choose from two sizes that cover a variety of plantings.  They simply go down over the plant and are secured into place by the stakes that come with the product.  Light and air can flow through them.  I even saw some that come with Christmas lights integrated  them – so you can have outdoor decor and protective covering at the same time.    I tend to like the traditional green – simple and easy.

It’s never too late to protect your plants.  So even though you may not have gotten around to prepping areas in the fall – you can still do something about it before the next winter storm invades your yard…
