I have always dreamed of taking my sister, who is also my best friend, away for a few days of together time. Between the demands of her family (a husband,11-year-old boy, 9-year-old girl and 3 recently adopted cats), my crazy schedule and our aging parents it’s been close to impossible. This year, after a particularly dreary winter, I was finally able to entice her to a magical place that was only a few hours away—Nantucket.

After a relaxing one-hour ride on Hy-Line ferry we were amazed to arrive in the center of this historic town full of boutiques, shops, art galleries and museums. We were lucky enough to meet Jane from the Nantucket Visitor Center & Information Bureau who set us straight on everything we needed to know, especially where to eat. There were so many great looking restaurants but we only got to try a few. We loved The Boarding House and Fog Island Café for breakfast

Next time we vow to try American Seasons.

We decided to stay at a lovely boutique hotel on the ocean called The Summer House

since celebrity chef Todd English has a restaurant there.

and they were hosting a dinner for wine week. Aside from lots of delicious New England fare with a modern twist we discovered a new wine trend— rosé and we fell in love with Château D’Esclans “Whispering Angel” Côtes de Provence. Check out our July burger story for more on rosés and food pairing.

Whispering Angel Bottle Photo 2010 (NEW)I was able to buy a bottle in my wine store for $20 so we can recreate our fun weekend.

Between shopping, eating, walking on the beach and laughing a lot I highly recommend this getaway for just girls or the whole family.
