First Lady Michelle Obama visited Shake Shack’s new Washington, D.C. location yesterday and ate a hamburger. AND French
fries. The Washington Post estimates that her meal racked up 1,700 calories, which is all many women need for an entire day. (Holy moly!)
Others, though, are applauding Obama for showing that with balance and moderation, junk food can be a part of a healthy diet. “It’s perfectly fine to indulge in your favorite foods every once in a while,” Elizabeth Ward, a registered dietitian in Boston, told USA Today.
Personally, I have no problems with Obama’s public display of indulgence. I’d say it’s realistic to expect people to eat mindfully most of the time. But always? No way.
