During our August Facebook slow cooker chat, a reader asked our associate food editor, Michael Tyrrell an interesting question:

My crock seems to have taken on the smell of onions. I’ve soaked and scrubbed it and even put it in the dishwasher. Can you recommend a way to get the smell out?

I’ve faced the same dilemma in the past. At times, my ceramic slow cooker bowl has taken on the scent of the last dish I cooked, despite scrubbing it with dish soap. Here’s what Michael suggested:

Make a warm water and baking soda solution and let it soak overnight.

Pretty simple, huh?

And if you have any other tips for getting removing odors from your slow cooker, please share them in the comments below.
