Holiday Entertaining In My House

In this month’s issue of Family Circle, in my Designer Dad Column, I talk about how music should be a big part of setting the scene for your holiday entertaining at home…
In my own home, I always have music playing when I’m preparing a meal with my family or when we are unwinding after doing the dishes – music is just a big part of my life. If I could have a soundtrack for my life – I would certainly have one playing to suit various moods. So, from everyday moments with family and friends – to entertaining or if I’m designing in my studio – music inspires, uplifts and energizes me.
Music, to me, is very much a part of creating a welcoming atmosphere in a home environment or in any space for that matter. Design washes over you when you come into a room – music does the same thing. A very powerful tool in creating a mood…especially at holiday time…
I’m often asked – what music I have playing in my own home? I have to say, that changes and ranges from various styles all the time – from Big Band music to the new music of Adele, Keith Urban, Jay-Z, OneRepublic and Sarah McLachlan to name a few…However, I have to be honest that the amazing music of Secret Garden is a big favorite in my home and studio…
Secret Garden’s music is very cinematic and just plain beautiful. I have all their CDs and every one of them evokes such a great mood and allows your mind to drift. When I’m designing or doing a creative project – it’s their music that is playing. In fact, as we put together my new Stephen Saint-Onge Canvas Collection – which launches online next week – we are using one of Secret Garden’s new pieces of music as part of a video introduction on that site…
Tomorrow – Secret Garden’s newest CD entitled “Winter Poem” is being released on a very appropriate day 11-11-11. I am so excited about it.
So, as I urge you to do in my Designer Dad column in the magazine - use music to your advantage when you are setting the holiday scene in your home. This is the kind of music that is perfect for that or just simply when you want some music that inspires your spirit…
I urge you to get all their music and make them part of the soundtrack to your life…
