If you can’t convince your teen to trek around the neighborhood in costume this year, don’t worry: Halloween festivities don’t have to be limited to trick-or-treating. Get the family together before the holiday and head to a local pumpkin patch (check out thepumpkindirectory.com to find one near you). Make a whole day out of it, and do some creative carving once you get home; find ideas at familycircle.com/jackolanterns. Whether your kids make a standard jack-o’-lantern or sculpt something frightfully fun, you’ll be enjoying a quintessential autumn activity.
