Go to the head of the class with accessories inspired by retro school supplies. “Decorative designs with loose leaf–paper stripes or other educational motifs provide a playful look,” says Julie Gaines of Fishs Eddy, the New York–based dishware company behind the notebook tray shown here (lower left). So consider chalkboard coasters, a stack of legal-pad napkins or a beaker-style glass mug. To keep your house from feeling like homeroom, limit yourself to just one or two pieces. The result will be genius.
