Can you lose weight with yoga? That’s the question on my mind right now. It’s National Yoga Month and, since I’m always on the lookout for a new exercise to love (since I don’t love to exercise), the thing I’m wondering about today is whether or not yoga can be that magical exercise that’s going to help me slim down.
Well, like any exercise, regular practice will help you shed some weight with yoga. The problem is that to REALLY burn the fat, you need some hardcore cardio and yoga doesn’t typically get the job done. However, there ARE a few forms of yoga that will get a harder workout in: ashtanga, vinyasa or power yoga. These are the classes that move quicker to get your heart pumping and also engage more of your muscles, which contributes to fat loss.
Yoga is a slow burn, though. Admittedly, you aren’t going to lose weight quickly but what you WILL gain is a leaner body. And don’t we all want to be more toned? Gaining muscle will make you look slimmer and also help you burn fat a little faster.
Those aren’t the only benefits of yoga, though. It will not only help you lose a little weight and get a more toned body, but it can also help you to lower your blood pressure, cure your insomnia, melt away stress AND give you a natural energy boost.
