Peanut butter is still the lunch box champ, but other nut butters have been hitting supermarket shelves. Along with seed-based spreads, such as sesame and sunflower, they offer a variety of flavors and health benefits, such as reducing the risk of heart disease and diabetes. Can’t find a specific butter at the store? Simply buy the nut in bulk and grind in a food processor until a paste forms. It will keep for several weeks when refrigerated in an airtight container.
Almond Butter: Blend into smoothies for extra protein
Sunflower Seed Butter: Alternative for those with nut allergies
Sesame Seed Butter: Great in hummus and salad dressings
Walnut Butter: Good source of omega-3s
Macadamia Nut Butter: Try drizzling over pancakes of waffles
Cashew Butter: Nutritious replacement for cream in soups
